Paysafe confirms over 7 million Neteller, Skrill accounts breached 2009-2010

More than 7 million Neteller and Skrill (Moneybookers) customer accounts were hacked in 2009 and 2010 according to a statement released by the London Stock Exchange on November 30. Paysafe, formerly known as Optimal Payments  now owns the global eWallets commonly used for casino payment processing in regulated markets.

In 2009 the Neteller database was accessed by exploiting a Joomla vulnerability allowing access to over 3.5 million accounts by the hackers. Over 4 million Moneybookers (Skrill) accounts were hacked through their virtual private network (VPN) in 2010.

It took  half a decade for information about the breach to be made public. Paysafe had over 1,000 of its own accounts compromised and took immediate actions to fix the fault and reimburse customers. The compan…
